The governor of South Sudan’s Gogrial state Gregory Deng Kuac has promised to allocate three positions of county commissioners to women in the state.
Speaking at a public function in Apuk East County on Tuesday last week, Governor Gregory Deng said it is unfair that all the 13 counties be governed by men without women, saying women contributed also in the liberation struggle.
“We are a democratic state where everyone has the right, it is unfair to forget women. Women have played great roles during our struggle, so we should not forget them,” said Deng.
The newly appointed governor urged the community of Gogrial state to stop tribal conflicts and embrace peace and dialogue if problems arise.
