Global Aim, a national Non-Governmental Organisation last Friday handed over two solar water distribution systems to the Enyif community and its Primary School, in Torit town of Eastern Equatoria State.

The 25,000 US Dollar project commenced in July this year with support from the German government and is expected to benefit about 15,000 people.

Samuel Gale, the Program Coordinator for Global Aim says the system will help the Enyif community access clean drinking water.

“We officially give the water to the community to use because the two sides have been having a problem of lack of safe clean water and that is why we came up with the idea to support, to improve the two sides to take clean and safe water," Gale said. "I wanted to end by saying take care of this water. The Water Management Committee should ensure the surrounding of the water is always clean.”

Gale further suggested that the communities benefiting from the water consider making contributions to facilitate repairs of the equipment.

He advised women and anyone who goes to fetch water to use clean jerry cans at the water point.

Rose Felix, one of the beneficiaries of the project says they were previously fetching direct water from the river and believes the presence of the small water distribution system will allow them to fetch clean drinking water within the area.

“We used to go to Kineti (Kineti River) and sometimes when the river is dirty, we use chlorine. We were taught at the county how to manage the water system. We will maintain this water by guiding the people in the area on the proper usage of the water point. This water will help us very much because the river is dirty, it will help us because it is clean. I appreciate them very much,” said Rose.

"This water system will help us, it will help me personally and also our community because we have been lacking this water and now we have enough water. We just have to maintain and take care of this," Ohucholi Joseph Emidio another beneficiary said.

Ohucholi suggested that to sustain the water system, those found wrongly using the water point should be subject to pay a fine.
