Girl injures two militiamen in Lakes state shooting

At least two members of the Gelwang militia were critically wounded in South Sudan's Lakes state on Sunday when a girl with an AK-47 opened fire on her relatives.

Rumbek East County Commissioner Martin Matian Anyuon said the incident took place at Ayen-Mayor village and the injured are now receiving medication at Rumbek state hospital.

Martin said the wounded are from Pacuar clan of Kok Community. He said the girl has not yet been apprehended but police authorities in the county are trying to reach the village where the incident took place.

He said it was not clear why the girl started shooting. It may have been a mistake.

Greater Rumbek has experienced revenge killings and inter-clan violence for many years, as well as domestic violence against girls.
