The residents of Rumbek East County, Cueigakteng Payam on Thursday morning woke up to a rude shock when they found the body of a teenage girl hanging on a rope.
The 13-year-old girl, Akuwei Khor Nyiduar, a resident of Timbar village was allegedly chided by her parents after they found her in possession of a phone.
"The parents caught her up with a phone. She was beaten and her phone was taken by her brothers. But later on, she hanged herself to death," Elijah Mabor Makuac, Lakes State police spokesperson said.
Sultan Gor Makuac Kerthith, the executive chief of the Dhiei section of Cueigakteng Payam, confirmed the incident but said he was not aware of the circumstances that could have led to such 'drastic' action.
Police spokesman Mabor also noted that on the same day, a community police officer shot himself in Maleng Payam while under the influence of alcohol.
According to him, the policeman shot himself at 4 pm and he was buried on Friday.
