A 9-year-old girl was last week abducted in a road ambush in Ayod County, Jonglei state, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, James Chuol Jiek, the county commissioner, said the girl was moving with her mother and three other siblings to Mogog Payam headquarters when she was abducted on Tuesday last week.
“The mother was moving with her children from Mogog Payam’s area of Panyang to Mogog town. On the way, they were waylaid,” Commissioner Chuol said. “The mother managed to escape with two of her children. Two others aged 9 and 5 months were abducted but the assailants later abandoned the baby.”
The commissioner accused armed youth suspected to have come from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) of the attack.
For his part, Jay Adingora Alual, the GPAA information minister, said he was not aware of the incident.
