Former minister of roads and bridges Gier Chuang Aluong, a leading figure in the SPLM-FDs group, has returned to the capital Juba, as part of the signed peace deal.

He was accompanied by several members of the SPLM-FDs.

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with President Salva Kiir on Thursday, Gier said their meeting focused on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“We came on behalf of members of the SPLM-FDs to share some information on the peace agreement with the president,” he said.

“Everybody is for peace. You have heard that we have ratified the agreement in Nairobi, so we are for peace and we are part of the peace agreement,” he added.

The ‘Former Detainees’ is led by a group of former ministers and other SPLM officials who were jailed on orders of President Salva Kiir in December 2013.
