Residents in Sudan’s Gezira state are grumbling about a cooking gas shortage and complaining over living conditions as campaigning for the April presidential and parliamentary elections gets underway.
In interviews with Radio Tamazuj, several citizens from Managil town said they do not care about the ongoing elections campaign. The grumbling residents further said nearly 300 villages in the state are facing a severe shortage of cooking gas.
The citizens line up every day to get a cylinder of cooking gas, according to the citizens.
Mamun El Sadiq, a local farmer said he does not care about the elections, explaining, “I am focusing on how to irrigate wheat crop that has been neglected by the government.”
Likewise, El Jaili El Dou, a citizen, said he will boycott the elections. He added that he did not even know the candidates in the area.
Vice President Hassabo Mohamed Abdul Rahaman recently launched campaigning of the ruling National Congress Party in the state. But the party left uncontested a geographical constituency at Madina Arab and Wad Raiya, presumably for the Ansar al-Sunnah group.
Ansar al-Sunnah candidate Mohamed Hassan El Khidir will compete with Mohamed al-Sheikh Awad of the Democratic Unionist Party headed by Jalal Yusuf El Digeir.
