The SPLA commander in Northern Liech state has refuted media reports alleging that he has joined the newly formed armed movement announced by former army chief Paul Malong this week.

The SPLA commander in Northern Liech state has refuted media reports alleging that he has joined the newly formed armed movement announced by former army chief Paul Malong this week.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Major General Mathew Puljang Tap dismissed the reports as baseless.

"These are rumours and I don’t have any contact with Malong. I am currently in Mankien area under the leadership of the government," he asserted.

According to a 2016 Human Rights Watch report, Puljang was accused of committing numerous human rights violations together with generals Paul Malong and Al-Taib Taitai.
