Gony, who died on 4 July at a hospital in Turkey while undergoing treatment, was laid to rest at the graveyard for martyrs.

South Sudan’s army spokesman, Lul Ruai Koang told Radio Tamazuj that Gony was buried at the graveyard for martyrs in Jebel neighborhood.

President Salva Kiir and several army and government officials attend the burial, which was accompanied by a funeral procession.

Gony, who hailed from Akobo area, served as the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) Upper Nile sector commander before his appointment as Akobo governor in January 2017.
