The governor of the proposed Gdudue state has survived an assassination attempt, according to a local government official.
Patrick Raphael was returning to Yambio town when his convoy came under attack by gunmen. At least two people died in the attack, and no group has claimed responsibility according to the local Information Minister Natale Sabuni.
Yambio has been the scene of intense fighting during South Sudan’s civil war, where a coalition of groups called the “Arrow Boys” have fought the government.
The term Arrow Boys is used to refer to a number of armed groups in Western Equatoria, some of which have been fighting the government.
