The Council of Ministers of South Sudan’s Gbudue State on Friday asked civil servants not to observe Thursdays as working day with immediate effect.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Acting Information Minister Pia Philip said the decision aimed to give time to civil servants to engage in their farms in order to boost food production in order to fight hunger and poverty in the state.
He pointed out that civil servants would also observe Fridays as a half working day.
Philip explained that the decision was taken because civil servants’ salaries delay for several months. “Salaries are delayed for several months that’s why we decided to give them time to cultivate on Thursdays,” he said.
Philip encouraged the civil servants in the state to engage in farming so they could meet their needs as they wait for salaries.
