The government of South Sudan’s Gbudue State has earmarked $44 million for the construction of Yambio airport terminal to meet international standards, an official said.

The government of South Sudan’s Gbudue State has earmarked $44 million for the construction of Yambio airport terminal to meet international standards, an official said.

The state information minister, Hussein Enoka told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the foundation stone for the project, being funded through the physical infrastructure ministry, was laid by Governor Daniel Badagbu.

“The project is being funded by the state government,” he said.

According to the state minister, work on the terminal will take less than a year if the company tasked to handle the project does not delay.

“We want to make it a second international airport. We, the government officials in Gbudue State, have decided to start the development of our state with what we have and I encourage the rest of the states to do the same,” said Enoka.

He urged people not to rely on government or foreign donations, adding that development starts with the little resources available.

Separately, he said the government plans to build roads in the state.

“The road equipment and engineers have touched down in Gbudue state to start the construction process. The construction will begin on Friday from Yambio to Congo border, the Central Africa Republic and neighbouring states’ borders,” said Enoka.

He added, “Having roads connected with the neighbouring states and countries lead to development of trade in the country”.
