Gangs attack worshipers during special prayers in Aweil

A criminal group on Wednesday attacked All Nations Church of Jesus Christ in Aweil town in Northern Bahr al Ghazal State when worshipers were organizing special prayers on the ongoing political unrest and economic crisis in South Sudan.

Daniel Lual Ater, Pastor of the All Nations Church in Aweil, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that a group of gangs came to the church and disrupted their prays around 2:00 am on Wednesday.

The religious leader pointed out that the attackers ordered members of the church to suspend any prayers without clear reasons, saying the gangs also threatened to shoot the worshipers if they organize prayers in the coming days.

“What happened on Wednesday at 2:00 am, we were praying for the crisis of South Sudan, but certain people came and attacked us when we were in prayers, they threatened  to close our church,” said Daniel.

The pastor blamed the local authorities for relocating a police post from residential areas to Maluil Akoong zone.

“The situation in our residential area is difficult, if any incident occurs nobody will be able to help people, “he said.”When the attack took place if there was a nearby police station people would have gone to open a case, but there is no any police post,” he added.
