The death toll in communal clashes in a refugee camp in Ethiopia’s Gambella town has risen to 8, with reports of 3 people missing.
Last week, the Gatjaak and Gatjiok sections of the Nuer community in Kule 2 camp clashed leaving 6 people dead, 38 injured and homes torched. The clashes were caused by a disagreement between two young men over a cigarette.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, Gabriel Chieng Tot, the chairman of the Nuer Community in Ethiopia said 2 more people died after succumbing to serious injuries sustained during the clashes.
Chieng further added that 3 people have been reported missing since the end of the conflict last Thursday but revealed authorities have launched a search operation.
He said people from both sections have been arrested in connection with the incident.
