South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai on Saturday held a public rally in the town of Bor in Jonglei State after his return from Bieh and Fangak States.

Addressing a crowd of citizens at the state secretariat, Gai urged Bor youth to resolve their conflicts with members of the Murle tribes peacefully and give the government a chance to bring about peace.

“We call on you to desist from violent conflict because the government will be the one fighting for you since protection of cattle and prevention of child abduction is mandatory for the government,” he said.

The top official also called on the business community in Bor town to take their goods to neighboring states, pointing to shortages of goods in Bieh and Fangak areas. He also emphasized the importance of social peace among the people of greater Jonglei.
