FVP Taban attends UN General Assembly in New York

South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai is in New York City in the United States to attend the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai is in New York City in the United States to attend the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Deng is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Nhial Deng Nhial.

The deputy ambassador to the United State Gordon Buay told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the South Sudan delegation was received by South Sudan permanent representative to the United Nations Akuei Bona Malwal and the newly appointed South Sudan ambassador to the United States Philip Jada Natana.

Deng is expected to address the UN General Assembly and also hold sideline meetings with different heads of states and governments from around the world and specifically leaders from the region.

According to Buay, he will brief the leaders on the progress with the recently signed revitalized peace agreement and government’s commitment to fully implement it.

Key issues likely to be discussed in the UN General Assembly include the Rohingya crisis, conflict in Syria and the Iran nuclear deal among others.

The 73rd session opened on 18 September 2018 but the first day of the high-level General Debate takes place on Tuesday, 25 September 2018, and is scheduled to last for nine working days.
