South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai said people must stop fighting, instead they must be united for peace and stability in the country.

Gai was speaking after a prayer service at South Sudan’s Presbyterian Church in the area of Nyakuron West in Juba to mark Easter celebrations on Sunday.

“We must forgive ourselves and unite the nation. We must unite the nation so that we realize peace,” Gai said.

The first vice president further said his government is working to bring peace to the war-torn country.

“Peace is coming back to our country. I am happy to announce that people are returning to their villages. The government is encouraging the return of refugees and IDPs who are in protection sites,” he said.

Taban stressed that the people of South Sudan must reconcile for the sake of development. “We must support the president so that he moves the country forward,” he said.
