Daily newspapers have not appeared on the streets of the South Sudanese capital, Juba today morning due to acute shortages of fuel, several journalists and vendors said.
“There is no any newspaper today. This is due to the fuel shortage at the printing machines,” one of the vendors said.
The vendors of daily newspapers expressed their discontent about the acute shortage of fuel in Juba city. They also expected high prices of newspapers due to the country’s economic crisis.
The shortage of fuel has also disrupted public transport forcing commuters is several neighbourhoods to walk in order to carry out their daily routine.
In late July, President Salva Kiir ordered security campaign to crackdown on street vendors in an attempt to control the recent rise in fuel prices in the country.
South Sudan is an oil-producing country, but it doesn't have refineries so the government subsidizes imported fuel.
