Tankers carrying fuel belonging to state-owned Nile Petroleum Corporation, known as Nilepet, have arrived in Yei after several months of acute fuel shortage that stalled the operations of commercial transport and other motorists in the area.

Tankers carrying fuel belonging to state-owned Nile Petroleum Corporation, known as Nilepet, have arrived in Yei after several months of acute fuel shortage that stalled the operations of commercial transport and other motorists in the area.

Mohamed Ahmed, managing director of the Rayan fuel station, told Radio Tamazuj that the quantity of fuel is over 30,000 liters to rescue the people of Yei. Ahmed further said more fuel trucks will arrive in Yei town after five days.

“The current quantity of this petrol is 34,700 liters and we are expecting more trucks of diesel after five days to maintain the demand of the people of Yei,” he said.

For his part, Yei’s minister of finance Kenyi Adiyaza confirmed that they have received the fuel supply from Nilepet, saying the government has not set any selling price though the current selling rate is 100 SSP per liter at all fuel stations.

“Nilepet has given a green light to supply Yei with fuel. We did not agree to fix the price. Nilepet gave us at 22 SSP per liter and the reasonable price in Yei is 55 SSP. So, I want to assure the people that it was not this price but because it was difficult to get fuel in Yei,” he said.
