Sudanese refugees at the Upper Nile University camp in Renk city, Upper Nile State, South Sudan, voiced their dissatisfaction with humanitarian organizations for their failure to provide assistance.
In surveys conducted by Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the refugees expressed deep regret over the lack of support from organizations.
Refugee Maha Bushara stated, “Since last July, organizations have not provided us with support, especially financial aid. About 120 people have died due to hunger, and the elderly have been neglected.”
She accused the UN Refugee Agency of exacerbating the refugees’ suffering, highlighting, “There are approximately 1,200 displaced families in the Maban camp, which is situated in a highly inhospitable environment.”
Refugee Abdelqader Abdelrahman noted, “Organizations recently resumed distributing shelter materials after a 3-month hiatus, but the need for food remains urgent.”
Refugee Ahmed Nasr-Allah criticized aid organizations for unequal treatment between refugees and citizens, advocating for equal assistance.
Mariam Ahmed Ismail, a recipient of financial assistance cards, expressed frustration, saying, “I received aid once but have not benefited since. With the rainy season starting, refugees at Upper Nile University camp face dire conditions.”
Refugee Ali Abdullah urged organizations to swiftly provide humanitarian aid and enhance conditions for refugees.
The Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been engaged in a war since last April that has resulted in 15,000 deaths and more than 8 million displaced and refugees, according to the UN.
Since the start of the civil war, thousands of homes, schools, hospitals, and other vital civilian structures have been destroyed, plunging the country into a severe humanitarian crisis, and creating the world’s largest displacement crisis.
