The African Union High Implementation Panel led by Thabo Mbeki has set Friday 18 March as the deadline for the consultative meeting in Addis Ababa between Sudan’s government and armed and unarmed opposition groups.
Mbeki will arrive in Khartoum today for consultations with President al-Bashir about the arrangements for the upcoming meeting.
African Union Liaison Office director in Khartoum Ambassador Mahmoud Khan told Radio Tamazuj by phone that Mbeki will discuss with al-Bashir the arrangements for the consultative meeting which includes the Sudanese government represented by two delegations for Darfur and the two areas, Darfuri armed movements, the SPLA-North rebels, and National Umma Party (NUP).
“The meeting is between the African Union High Implementation Panel and President al-Bashir to discuss the preparation for the consultative meeting which is going to be held in Addis Ababa on 18 March,” Khan said.
He confirmed the consent of all parties to attend the strategic and consultative meeting according to the AUHIP arrangements.
“All parties have agreed to participate in the meeting,” he said.
