Local authorities in the Khorfulus area of Pigi County, Jonglei state say at least 30 households have been left homeless after fresh floods hit the area on Saturday.
Acting County Commissioner, James Biliu Kur, told Radio Tamazuj that the floods started on Saturday following a rise in the level of the Sobat River waters.
He pointed out the floods destroyed over 30 homes in parts of the county.
“The areas affected are Wunlem, Manbai, and Wuncuei. From those areas, about 30 households arrived in the Khorfulus town. And they are now sheltering at the county headquarters premises,” he said.
The local official pointed out that the displaced population lack food and shelter.
For his part, Simon Manyang, the county Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) coordinator, appealed to the aid agencies to intervene, saying the flood victims stay in the open without food, clean drinking water, and access to health care services.
According to reports, floods have displaced 350, 000 people across Jonglei, and the displaced could be hit by serious food shortages if they get no support.
