Fresh fighting erupted Tuesday morning south of Wau between SPLA-IO forces and government soldiers.
Many people within Wau confirmed that they were hearing gun shooting at the southern part of the town.
SPLA-IO Col. Augustine Charles told Radio Tamazuj that their forces came under heavy attack southwest of Wau town by government forces.
“What happened, our forces today at around 6:00 am were attacked at all their forces at Gong, Birinygy, Farajalla, Diffa and at Bagari in the area of Taban,” he said.
“Government forces attacked our forces and the fighting until now continues to chase us out of our positions,” he added.
Charles mentioned the area where they fighting ongoing now has over 17,000 civilians.
SPLA spokesperson Lul Ruai said he contacted officials in Wau and they told him they heard no fighting this morning.
