At least seven people were killed and more than 20 wounded during an inter-clan conflict over the weekend between the Kawahala and Kaja clans of the Hamar tribe in the Sudanese West Kordofan State.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Musa Ahmed Sayid, a local chief said the two clans fought over the ownership of a gold mine in Armel area.
He noted that tensions are escalating between the two clans after the clashes saying all those killed were from the Kaja clan including 10 others who were injured. He further added that 17 people from the Kawahala clan were injured in the armed confrontation.
Musa said a police force has been deployed to the area to contain the situation and reduce any tensions between the two communities.
