About seven people have been killed and tens displaced in fresh clashes between communities from Terekeka County in Juba's Kworjik-Luri area of Central Equatoria State.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj via phone on Wednesday, Terekeka County Commissioner James Lino said the clashes intensified on Wednesday morning after the murder of a man on Tuesday.
"Yesterday (Tuesday), a man was killed by unknown people from the side of Kobura. So in the morning (Wednesday), there were clashes in Kworjik and a place called Nakuluje in Rombur. The clash is between the two payams of Moni and Tali. We have now found that seven people are dead and it's still because people are in the bushes, am sure there could be more dead people in the bushes," he said.
Lino said the situation was contained after security forces were sent to the area. He urged the communities to resolve their differences peacefully.
"Right now we have sent forces to Kworijik and Nakuluje to calm the situation. I want to tell all the citizens that there were clashes in past but we sat down and it was resolved. But now they have started to fight, I want to ask them to stop fighting and live as brothers," he noted.
According to the commissioner, the exact number of casualties and displaced is not yet known but could be higher as people continue to hide in the bushes and relocate from the area.
