Fresh clashes between Misseriya and Rizeigat tribes

At least 11 people were killed and several others wounded in fresh clashes between Misseriya and Rizeigat Arab tribes in the border between Sudan's East Darfur and West Kordofan states.

Rizeigat tribal leader Al Shartai Bashir Hamdi accused members of Misseriya of assaulting them over the last three days at Duraba, Farsaya on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Hamdi said two Rizeigat and three Misseriya were killed in the Friday attack, while one Rizeigat was along with four Misseriya were killed on Saturday at Duraba area.

The wounded were taken to Ad Daein Hospital for treatment, he said. Hamid called on the West Kordofan government to bring the perpetrators to book.

Misseriya tribal leader Sharif Mohamed said that they were attacked at Duraba area on Saturday.

He told Radio Tamazuj that the attack took place after a committee comprised of three people from the Misseriya was sent to recover stolen goats from the Rizeigat tribe.

Sharif alleged that the three people were killed by the Rizeigat tribe and one person from them was also killed during the fight.

He said the fighting is taking place as the government is busy with elections.
