Sudanese security forces are reported to have launched a campaign of mass arrests against members of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) and activists of the Girfina Movement in Sudan.
In a statement, the SCP party’s spokesman Abu Baker Yusuf stated security agents arrested a considerable number of youths were near Comboni buildings in Khartoum centre without any clear reason.
He said SCP members, other activists and three members of the Sudanese Communist party were among those arrested.
Last week, about seven political detainees of the Sudanese Congress Party including a journalist were released from the El Obeid prison in North Kordofan, according to the opposition party’s Secretary-General Abdul Qayom.
This month marks the one year anniversary of the September protests, which kicked off in Khartoum and other cities of Sudan after the government lifted fuel and cooking gas subsidies.
