Four women are still under police custody in Bor following a protest against staff changes at the Ministry of Finance. According to State Minister of Information Jody Jonglei, the women could be released this week.
Jody Jonglei said, “It is matter of advice to our people of Jonglei State to understand that the government belongs to them and is ready to deliver services to them. There is no need of that protest because it was just transfer within the ministry and the positions are for individual not for community and if the staffs are happy with the transfer then there is no need of the community to protest.’’
One of the women protesters was earlier quoted as saying that they were accused of “causing turmoil” and incitement and opposing the governorship of John Kong. In an unbroadcast interview with Radio Tamazuj, one of them made racial remarks against the governor.
