At least four suspected armed criminals have been arrested following reports of cyclic attacks in cattle camps in Koch County in Unity State, the commissioner said.
Koch County Commissioner Gordon Koang Biel told Radio Tamazuj Monday that he got a tipoff that armed youths planned to carry out a revenge attack on a rival cattle camp which prompted him to deploy the police to check the escalation of intercommunal violence.
He said that on 14 May, armed youth attacked policemen at their station and that there was a heavy exchange of gunfire but no one was killed but one person was injured.
“The incident happened in Koch County on the 14 May (Sunday) when armed youth from the cattle camps attacked police officers. in ensuing the fracas, one youth was hit with the butt of a gun,” he explained. “We deployed our forces and surrounded the armed youths and were able to apprehend four suspects who we brought to the police station.”
“We also sat down with and tasked the relatives of six of the armed youths who fled and evaded arrest to bring them to the police,” Commissioner Koang added.
He said the organized forces are still providing security in the cattle camps and urged the people of Koch County to embrace peace.
“Those (4) who have been arrested are being investigated and their case will be taken to the local court,” he said. “The suspects are currently here in Rubkona and we deployed forces after they were arrested. I urge the communities to live in peace.”
