At least four South Sudanese soldiers were killed by the Ugandan army over the weekend, a spokesman for the military said on Tuesday.

Lul Ruai Koang, the spokesman for SSPDF told Radio Tamazuj that the incident between South Sudanese forces and the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) happened on Sunday after the two sides exchanged fire at a village in Kajo-Keji County of Central Equatoria State.

“Without prior warning, the Ugandan army opened fire on South Sudan soldiers who were conducting a foot patrol at the border to enforce cross-border movement restrictions,” he explained.

Lul pointed out that a committee had been set up to conduct investigations to find out what happened exactly at the border with Uganda.

For his part, Lt. Leuben Ndifula, the UPDF public relations officer for West Nile was quoted By the Ugandan Daily Monitor as saying residents had several raids and harassment from some armed groups from South Sudan.

He said the suspected gangs sometimes order residents to give them money, steal their phones and go back to South Sudan.
