At least four people including two chiefs have been confirmed dead in a revenge attack in Gok State today morning, an official said.

The Acting Speaker of Gok State legislative assembly Zackariah Riak Mathen told Radio Tamazuj this afternoon that the clashes occurred between the Panaguong and Panawur clans.

Riak said a group of armed men from Panaguong clan attacked Panawur clan at the Abieicok area at 8:30 AM. Executive chief Buong Marial Alambeny Goljok and sub-Chief Nguan Ruop from Panawur and two attackers died in the clashes.

He claimed the attack was orchestrated by the son of late Chief Kok Makur who was killed by a member of the Panawur clan last year.

The local official noted that the state governor and commissioners visited the scene and deployed a huge force to avert further clashes. Riak called on the victims’ families to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.

The Panawur and Panaguong clans have been embroiled in revenge clashes since 2014 leading to the deaths of four chiefs in the area.
