The acting governor of Northern Bahr al Ghazal decided yesterday to suspend four state officials for being “politically activist” and “disobedience”.
According to a letter from the Council of Ministers, the caretaker governor decided to suspend Deputy Aweil Mayor Wol Mathok Diing and two officials in the education ministry, Garang Wol Kon and Gabriel Bol Dut with immediate effect.
The letter gave the following reasons:
1/ You are politically activist
2/ Accused of spreading faults rumous within the communities [sic]
3/ creating faults allegation against the government [sic]
The suspended deputy mayor Wol Mathok Diing is the brother of Dhieu Mathok Diing, chairman of the external relations committee of the SPLM-in-Opposition.
The latter two officials are also SPLM youth league members – Garang being the chairman.
In a separate letter, Caretaker Governor Salva Chol Ayat himself ordered the suspension of the government secretary-general Kiir Yor Lual with effect from 4 May 2014 and placed him under house arrest.
“Reason of suspension disobedience and lack of Cooperation in the work,” reads the letter. “You are to remain in your house till further directives.”
Clement Manyuat was appointed acting secretary-general in his place. The former letter was written in Manyuat’s name.
