Authorities in Tambura County of South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State have arrested four men suspected to be behind waves of criminal activities in the county.

Last week, residents of Tambura County witnessed looting and killings, prompting several of them to leave their homes and hide in the bush.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Alfred Futuyo, the state governor said he supervised the arrest of the four men suspected of involvement in causing insecurity in Tambura county.

He pointed out that a peace conference between the Balanda and Zande communities was also organized during his visit to Tambura, adding that a committee was formed to oversee the peace and reconciliation process between the two communities.

Over the past three months, tension has reportedly been high between the Zande community and its neighbouring Balanda.

The governor urged the local communities to unite while appealing to the national government to expedite the graduation of police officers to be deployed to protect civilians in the state.
