The authorities in Nzara County have confirmed that four people were killed and one seriously injured in an ambush along the Nzara-Tambura Road on Tuesday morning.
According to officials, the victims were traveling on bicycles and motorbikes when they were attacked by unidentified gunmen approximately 12 miles from Nzara Town.
Nzara County Commissioner Lino Futaki told Radio Tamazuj that five individuals fell in the ambush and four of the victims were killed on the spot, while one sustained critical injury.
“Four people were on their way to Tambura, and one was traveling in the opposite direction when they were ambushed. Unfortunately, four were killed, and one was seriously injured,” he said. “I urge the people of Nzara to avoid unnecessary movement at night. I also appeal to the state government to deploy additional security forces to enhance community protection.”
Meanwhile, Western Equatoria State’s Acting Police Commissioner, General Samuel Tet, stated that security forces have launched an investigation into the attack.
“The attackers specifically targeted individuals using bicycles and motorbikes,” he stated. “Security personnel have been deployed to the area, and we are gathering more details.”
