Four killed in attacks on Juba-Bor road

At least four passengers were killed and 11 others injured in two separate attacks on commercial vehicles traveling along the Juba-Bor road on Tuesday, police said.

At least four passengers were killed and 11 others injured in two separate attacks on commercial vehicles traveling along the Juba-Bor road on Tuesday, police said.

“The first incident occurred in the Khor-Makuac area when an armed group attacked a car heading to Juba, killing a young lady. In the second incident, a car from Juba to Bor was ambushed, leaving 3 people dead and 7 injured,” Major General Joseph Mayen Akoon, the state police commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj.

He added, “Those injured are receiving treatment at Bor hospital”.

Mayen said no arrests had been made. “There have been inter-communal clashes among communities of greater Jonglei for months. So, these ambushes could be linked to revenge attacks,” he explained.

The police officer urged drivers to take precautionary measures as they move along the Juba-Bor road, saying logistical challenges make it difficult for police to provide security and protect travelers.
