Four foreigners accused of forgery in Wau

Four foreigners have been arrested in the town of Wau in Western Bahr el Ghazal state of South Sudan, accused of local currency counterfeiting.

Two Darfuri Sudanese, one Kenyan and an Ethiopian were reportedly apprehended when a sum of SSP1,500 in allegedly counterfeit notes was found in their possession by police, a source confirmed.

Police authorities confirmed that the investigation is being carried out at Wau police station.

The director of the police division in Wau, Major Martin Khamis told Radio Tamazuj that the police would check the machine used by the criminals.

He noted that the suspects claimed that they were traders in Wau. He also revealed that the arrested foreigners denied their involvement in this criminal act.  He added that there has been a crackdown of robbery related crimes by the authorities following a security plan of the State government.
