At least four people have been arrested in Mayom County in Unity State for rustling cattle from the Fulla area in neighboring Sudan, authorities said.
Mayom County Commissioner John Mayak Bol told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday in his jurisdiction and that some of the cattle have been recovered.
“The authorities in Mayom County have collected 30 cows from the criminals out of 150 that were stolen from the Fulla area of the Messeriya in Sudan,” he said. “These four people who went and attacked our neighbors in Sudan will not be released soon because they are creating problems among the communities of Mayom and the Sudanese.”
According to Commissioner Mayak, investigations will commence when all the youths involved in the raid are arrested.
“The details of the investigation will come when we arrest all the remaining 76 armed youth that are linked to attacks. We have now identified those who are creating insecurity among the two countries,” he said. “We are still looking for them and will arrest them and investigate why they are creating insecurity.”
Meanwhile, Kai Mead Makuei, a Mayom County resident, commended the authorities for recovering some of the rustled cattle.
“I urged the Unity State government and the Sudanese authorities to collaborate and protect the communities from criminals on both sides,” Majuuei said.
