Former Sudanese President Abdulrahman Siwar al-Dahab has died in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, Sudan's state news agency (SUNA) reported on Thursday.
The agency said the former president died at a military hospital in Riyadh at the age of 83, without providing more details.
Siwar al-Dahab, a former army officer, became more prominent when former President, Gaafar Nimeiry, appointed him chief of staff, and later minister of defence and commander of the armed forces, in 1984.
He served as president of Sudan from April 6, 1985, to May 6, 1986, after staging a coup. This made him to become the chairman of Transitional Military Council.
Following elections, Siwar al-Dahab surrendered power to the government of Sadiq al-Mahdi in 1986.
