South Sudan’s former deputy defense minister and member of the former political detainees group, Majak D’Agoot, has called on president Salva Kiir and his first vice president Riek Machar to resign, accusing them of losing control of their forces.
Fighting erupted in Juba on the eve of the independence anniversary and continued through Monday before the two parties announced a ceasefire.
Majak accused the two parties of obstructing the stability of the country by their dangerous actions, describing what has happened as shameful and tragic.
In an interview with Africa Channel 54 Majak said: “When we started the negotiation in Addis Ababa we called for the demilitarization of Juba and a third force to protect the civilians to prevent such incidents.”
He pointed that what South Sudan is going through now is the result of the careless behaviors of the leadership and the security arrangements which provided for two armies in one place.
