Information Minister Michael Makuei told Radio Tamazuj this morning that former justice minister Paulino Wanawilla died at Juba Medical Complex where he was receiving treatment for severe malaria.

“We offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and the people of South Sudan on the death of Paulino Wanawilla. It is a great loss to the nation,” Makuei said.

Wanawilla, a lawyer who also spent years in politics, served as the minister of justice for seven years until he was recently sacked before the formation of the unity government.

Prior to his removal in February, Wanawilla made some constitutional amendments to incorporate the 10 states plus three administrative areas into the country’s transitional constitution.

He hailed from Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
