Akuien was the first minister of finance and planning in the semi-autonomous Government of South Sudan (GoSS) after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005.

The book takes readers on an extraordinary journey intertwining elements of mystery, adventure, and self-discovery.

As one of the prominent political leaders who were involved in the liberation struggle, Akuien’s book unveils some of the events that occurred during the bush war. 

“The book is a compelling and inspiring memoir that tells the story of my life and other South Sudanese who sacrificed for this country,” Akuien disclosed while presiding over the launch of his memoirs on Sunday in Juba. “I shared experiences and insights into the challenges faced, victories, and lessons learned. I am happy that the book motivates both young people and the leaders to the prosperity of this country.”

The book narrates the country’s liberation journey from 1955 till independence in 2011 while reflecting on various troubled and complex situations experienced by the liberators whose quest for truth took them on an unforgettable odyssey.

As the past is filled with misery, inner battles, and unexpected encounters, fellow citizens are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and revelations.

The must-read book underscores South Sudan’s history, politics, and the incredible story of a man who devoted his life to serving his country and people.

“It is surely a testament to the power of perseverance, hope, and determination in the face of diversity,” the author said.  “It also offers a rare glimpse into a life of service and vision for a future of opportunities, hope, and peace.”

The launch of the book marked the beginning of its sale in the country.

Akuien is a father, uncle, liberator, statesman, and a long-serving politician. He is the former minister of finance and planning of the then-Southern Sudan. Technically, he is a finance professional and academician.
