Otum Kiir Awabeck, a paramount chief of Wadokona County, went on the run recently after he was threatened by a prominent politician during a traditional court sitting about a land dispute.

Ayouk Deng Kur was the former commissioner of Greater Fashoda. He allegedly threatened the chief and members of his court while they were deliberating a land case on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj , an eyewitness said that he saw the paramount chief and his members break into a run, leaving behind their papers, when Ayouk Deng pulled out a knife threatening to kill them.

The paramount chief alleges that the conflict between his team and the politician started when the latter claimed that somebody called Emmanuel had taken 5 hectares of land belonging to him.

“He came and opened a case and we found that Emmanuel was having documents for land adjustment to the one of Ayouk, and Ayouk does not have any paper for the land he was claiming, and he pulled a knife on us,” said the paramount chief.

He further said that he cannot believe the behavior of Ayouk Deng despite being a top political figure in the region.

Another member of the traditional court said he would refer the case to the police for opening a criminal case against Ayouk Deng.

He further said that his group has called for formation of a committee to look into the case and come up with their final finding in the case.
