Foreigners operating commercial motorcycles (popularly known as Boda-boda) in Jonglei State say they are facing harassment from local youth claiming that they have taken their jobs.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Okweri Aziz, the chairperson of the Ugandan community in Bor said local youth have been attacking foreign motorists since Friday.
He pointed out that at least 20 foreign nationals including eight Ugandans were attacked since Friday.
“We have not got the reasons as to why they are chasing us away. Those who are in the hospital getting treatment so far now are eight,” he said.
Aziz appealed to the state authorities to investigate the incident and arrest those involved in the attacks.
Meanwhile, David Machar, the head of the Jonglei Boda-Boda Association said foreign motorists operating in Bor have taken jobs which the locals should do. He added that they had warned the foreign motorists to stop operating in Bor but the foreigner’s refused to stop.
For his part, Chol Deng Achiek, Jonglei deputy police commissioner condemned the attacks.
“We arrested eight people but they were released on bail. They will be tried when those injured foreigners recover,” he said.
