Football: Malualkon beats Wunyiik Battalion

Malualkon beat Wunyiik Battalion 2-0 last Saturday in the Aweil East County football tournament. The first goal was scored by team captain Aguer Chok, and the second goal by player number 11. Speaking to journalists at Mabil football grounds, referee Akuei Aleu, who is also the county football chairman, said that the game was very successful despite challenges such as a shortage of playing shoes and t-shirts for the players. The match was organized by the county football association in collaboration with Aweil Stars football club, under the patronage of the national Commerce Minister Garang Diing Akuong. The match, which is the first of its kind, was attended by thousands of spectators and senior government officials. Among those in attendance were State Minister of Water and Irrigation Bona Makuach Mawien, Aweil East County MP Ayar Gau, and Aweil East Commissioner Awet Kiir Awet. County Commissioner Awet Kiir expressed his appreciation for both teams and encouraged them to continue practicing football. Kiir pointed out that sport is developmental and must be practiced daily. He also encouraged the losers, Wunyiik Battalion, not to give up as they might be winners in another competition.
