Local authorities in Fashoda County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State announced that tens of thousands of displaced persons living in the county will receive food rations and medicines starting today, 10 April.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Fashoda County Commissioner Morris Adiang Papiti stated the Wold Food Program and Wold Vision as well as Doctors Without Borders have brought food and medicines for the needy people who are currently encamped in the area.

He noted the aid assistance that is likely to be distributed targets over 120,000 people who had sought refuge in the County during the fighting in their villages.

According to the official, Fashoda County previously accommodated over 200,000 displaced people but about 80,000 people have recently returned back to Wau Shilluk and Makal areas following recapture of Malakal town by the government.

The displaced have been experiencing shortages of food and medicines as well as shelter, prompting the local authorities to call for humanitarian organizations and people of good will to provide them with food and other essential services.
