Food shortages continue in Turalei

Internally displaced persons in the Angany Camp in Warrap’s Twic County say they have not received rations for the last month.

“We have not received the food for one month that is June,” camp resident Suzy Ayuen Deng told Radio Tamazuj. “We are surviving on firewood we are collecting from the nearest forest by selling them to hotels in town.”

Ayuen said the official counts to determine how many people need food have missed many residents, and alleged that IDPs from Abyei are given preference over those from Bentiu.

The County Relief and Rehabilitation committee was not available for comment, but Ayuen said that local authorities told her the problem begins in Juba.

“We don’t know what really happened to UN that used to send us food here in Angany Camp,” said another resident named Margaret Peter. “We are not getting updates from the authorities of what is happening.”
