Food shortage, insecurity hinder return of families to Wonduruba

Over 2,000 conflict-affected families from Wonduruba Payam are currently living in Lainya County in South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State amid deteriorating humanitarian conditions, a local official said.

Lainya County Commissioner Augustino Kiri Gwolo said on the twice weekly 'With the Commissioners' program broadcast by Radio Tamazuj today that those families cannot return back to their homes due to food shortage and rampant insecurity.

Kiri pointed out that the conflict-affected people from Wonduruba were given humanitarian assistance, but it was inadequate for them, saying it is difficult for them to return.

He called on the government to provide food and security so they can return. In September, insecurity in Wonduruba payam forced thousands of people to flee to Lainya and others are still living in the bush.
