Food shortage hits Boma capital

Residents in Pibor town in South Sudan’s Boma state face food shortages, according to a local official.

Boma’s Minister of Local government, Simon Gain, told Radio Tamazuj today that local residents in Pibor are currently facing hunger.“Yes it is true. There is no food because the little brought by the traders is finished,” he said.

He blamed a lack of rain, which has resulted in a poor harvest.

A local resident complained about the rise in prices owning to scarcity of food commodities at the market. “A sack of maize flour is sold at SSP 20, 000,” he explained.
