The International Committee of the Red Cross in collaboration with the South Sudan Red Cross this week started distributing food to conflict-displaced people in western Jonglei.
Thousands of people fled last month from clashes in Duk County into Twic East County to the south. They began receiving food rations on Monday at the start of a three-day distribution.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Commissioner Dau Akoi mentioned that three or more international NGOs on the ground were involved in the distribution of food items.
These organizations include WFP, CRS and ICRC. Dau said the items being distributed include floor, sugar, rice, beans, cooking oil, sorghum and salt.
Concerning health issue within the county, the organization CARE International is providing some services to the displaced and residents.
He explained also that some aid workers are also still registering returnees from Twic East who had fled across the Nile into Lakes state and since returned.
