South Sudan’s capital Juba is reportedly facing a severe shortage of flour with closure of several bakeries in some neighbourhoods.

Several bakers and traders told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that they have run out of flour, prompting them to halt operations.

They attributed the problem to scarcity of flour at the market, saying a 50 kg sack of flour now costs 500 SSP. The traders called on the government to intervene urgently to rescue the situation in South Sudan.

Meanwhile, prices of commodities continue to rise in different parts of South Sudan.
